A Clinico-Histopathological Study for Chronic Tonsillitis


Abstract
Author studied on clinico-histopathological aspects for 78 patients who were admitted for tonsillectomy to the Department of Otolaryngology of Seoul Red Cross Hospital from Mar. 1980 to Feb. 1982.
The results were as follows:
1) Histopathologically, 26.9% of the cases were belonged to chronic active group which combined with acute inflammation, and 73. 1% of the cases were belonged to chronic hypertrophic group.
2) In chronic active group, there was a tendency of increased lymphocytes than neutrophiles on WBC differential count, but, in chronic hypertrophic group, 70.2% of the cases revealed normal range of WBC differential count.
3) Follicular (B-cell) hyperplasia was noted in all cases.
4) In chronic active group, there was a tendency of increased diffuse (T-cell) hyperplasia.
